Currency exchange

Because US stocks are traded in US dollars, trading may also involve currency exchange. Kvarn X’s currency exchange fee is $4 ≈ €3.45. You will see the trading fees and any possible currency exchange-related fees before confirming your order.

Capital gains and losses from US stocks are generally taxed in Finland in the same way as domestic stocks. Capital gains are usually taxable capital income, and capital losses can typically be deducted in taxation in accordance with the rules of the Finnish Tax Administration.

Foreign dividends are often subject to withholding tax in the country where the dividend is paid. For dividends from US stocks, the withholding tax is typically 15% when the required tax treaty information is in order. In Finland, this tax withheld abroad can usually be credited in accordance with the tax treaty, so that the same income is not taxed twice.
